Opium EDT, YSL, Identifying the vintage batches
Vintage DecantsIdentify and explain:
Hello fragrance fam! On today's episode of "Identifying the vintage" were covering Opium EDT by YSL!
A true masterpiece in terms of an oriental scent profile. It's warm, spicy, yet sweet and floral, with a dominant note of jasmine and a rich oakmoss backbone in it's vintage version.
Opium EDT, originally Released in 1977, I'm only going to touch on it's first three main reformulations.
1. 1977-1986 If you want the highest potency of oakmoss and animalics, the first two reformulations are amazing.
In the first editions the batch sticker will have "Yves Saint Laurent Paris" printed underneath. Sometimes it will also say 70% volume on the bottom of the bottle.
2.1986-1993 The second formulation is also amazing, and maybe slightly louder in terms of potency compared to the first formulation. The batch sticker will say "Yves Saint Laurent Parfums Corp" underneath the bottom of the bottle.
3.Opiums third formulation were the Sanofi batches. They are still good. The jasmine was increased, and the animalics were toned down, but are still present. They are from 1993-1999 and the sticker will have "Sanofi" printed on it. Also the bottle changed, to smooth a smooth texture around this time.
Newer versions produced afterwards are still good, but for the real magic, search for older bottles to experience what a perfectly well rounded Oriental scent is!
Hope this helps, and enjoy the Journey!
