Acqua Di Gio EDT, ARMANI, Identifying the vintage batches
Vintage DecantsIdentify and explain:
Hello fragrance fam! On today's episode of "Identifying the vintage" were discussing Acqua Di Gio EDT for men!
This is a hall of fame fragrance that has spawned numerous flankers behind it. It was also one of the first widely popular scents to use the aroma chemical of calone in its formula. (methylbenzodioxepinone)
*Fun fact: Pfizer, the same company that created the anti virus for Covid, used to manufacture fragrance as well. They discovered/created calone in 1966. Calone, has a smell that often gets compared to a salty sea like type of aroma.
1996-2001 the first formulation was produced by "Cosmair", it is very calone heavy.
2001-2016 after L'Oreal bought cosmair in 2001 the batch sticker will now list "Luxury Products" as the manufacturer. These batches are the most well known, and I would consider them still of good quality. The calone note was toned down, and light florals were added.
2016-Current, use a batch code website to check your year. These and current bottles have had key fixatives removed that greatly impacted the longevity of this fragrance.
In my opinion I would pursue any batch made before 2016.
Hope this helps, enjoy the Journey!
