The emergence of "long" ingredient lists on boxes.
(Major change) 2001-2004 In order to enhance customer awareness, significant reformulations took place during this period. This was aimed at making fragrances more accessible to individuals with sensitive allergies. Consequently, detailed ingredient lists on packaging became a requirement. The permissible raw materials in perfumes were further limited from 0.6% to a cap of 0.1%. Additionally, the use of endangered species and animal-derived notes was banned.
This reform's timeline varies based on the brand or fragrance, as Ifra provides a three-year grace period for new regulations. For instance, Ralph Lauren/Cosmair quickly adapted to the new changes in 2001.
However, a majority of perfumes did not comply until 2004.
The traditional scent profiles that relied on raw materials such as anamalics, fougeres, chypres, and woods experienced a significant shift in their scent profiles. (The classic aroma)
